vagabondbook

A blog about wandering books and the people that intercept and alter them.

signed and sealed

I’m happy to say the book is on the move once again. It was great seeing all the work that’s been completed so far. Amazing creative ideas just leap out from all the contributers. Tracie, thanks for organizing this, it’s been such a fun project to be involved with.

I’ve been reading Darwin’s notebooks online and I guess the ideas of evolution and religion were what I was thinking about when I starting working on my pages. jeannie

Bobbi Jo and the Book

After Laurie had mailed it off, I realized that my new address probably wasn’t on the mailing list, and I hadn’t received the book. After worrying about it for a few weeks, Laurie finally found it returned in her mailbox. Phew! She mailed it off to me again and it got to our new house without a hitch.

It was so much fun to look through the book! So many creative ideas in there. The only problem was I just couldn’t come up with any ideas. The pages I had were so simple and sweet already, so I sat and sat. I couldn’t figure out what to do. Yesterday I forced myself to come up with something. I’m not in love with the final product, it’s a little more over the top than I was hoping for, but I do like some of the parts. I used pastels and bits of old magazine for texture, along with some paint and markers.

Thanks, Laurie!! I attached my two photos.

Hope you are doing great!

xoxo

P.S. Bobbi Jo sent this to me ages ago to post because she was having trouble accessing the blog. I have been a slacker and just now got around to posting this for her. I am sorry Bobbi Jo. Thanks for playing and sending the book on. Jeannie, do you have it now?

Dunzo

See final photos on my craft blog.  As I promised before, as soon as my husband is home from Taiwan on Friday, I will enlist his help in editing this post to get the pictures up here.  Apologies for having to send you elsewhere in the meantime.

I will try to get the book in the mail to Bobbi Jo tomorrow!

Big work

The book had been sitting on my dining room table all week. I kept eyeing it as I walked by. My supplies were sitting next to it, and I eyed those, too. What to do, what to do? Last night my daughter pulled out a sheet of lantern pictures and I suddenly knew. I didn’t like the picture or the words I inherited, so I obliterated them with numerous layers, making it entirely my own. I’m so excited, I didn’t even wait until the big page was dry before posting this. I still have my remaining half-page to do, plus my cover art, but until then, I’ll give you this preview. The pages I got from Mortimer’s Mom looked like this (third picture.)

Now they look like this.

My apologies for not posting the photo here. I am having difficulty and my IT guy is on a business trip. Will fix it when he returns, and perhaps try retaking the photos in natural light for a better view.

Yellow book in the house!

I received the yellow book from Virginia, not, uh, while she was here visiting, as planned, but actually a couple days ago via postal service. I guess when one is running out the door in a big hurry, one sometimes forgets things sitting next to the door, eh Virginia? (Hee!)

Anyway, I am blown away by the creativity and quality in this piece of cooperative art thus far. My gosh, you people are talented! Really, none of the photographs have come close to doing this project justice. It is AMAZING when one holds it in one’s hands and flips through the pages. Wow.

I have a lot to live up to. Being somewhat anal-retentive, I am determined to get that bad boy back in the mail within the 10-day suggested period. Right now I’m doing a lot of work in my head — things are taking shape. Ideas. What I will actually come up with remains to be seen, but my enthusiasm is high.

I did it!

I promised I would get it done in my alloted time, and I did. It’s just the way I am…. I took it to the country house on the weekend with nothing but inks and pastels and just worked on the background. There were so creepy monkeys on the tree that I just couldn’t stand to look at!

After I had the colors worked out, I left it alone for a couple of days, just thinking about what I actually wanted to do… and this afternoon, with the girl down for a long nap, I just went back and worked on it, and before I knew it, I was done. I may fiddle with it a little more before I pack it on Friday night, but I’m pretty much done.

(I can’t figure out how to upload pictures in wordpress, but i put them here on Ubercrafty.)

Just a little note: since I will be seing Laurie this weekend in person, and Bobby Jo volunteered to switch with her, I will pass the book onto Laurie, who will then send it to Bobby Jo next. I hope this doesn’t upset anyone, it just seemed to make sense, and they were both ok with it.

precious cargo delivery!

The yellow book has landed on Canadian soil!

When the mailman showed up today and handed me a package, I ignored it, because the packages here are NEVER for me! But in the haze of my antibiotics/backpain medication, I read the name on it and surprise! It was the book!

Couldn’t have arrived at a better time, since I seem to be suffering from a combination of back pain and a kidney infection (which causes more back pain….) so I am stuck at home for a few days.

I have to say, when I signed up for this last year, I knew exactely what technique I was going to use, it was just going to be a matter of making it fit the page I got. Now, a year later, I can barely remember what I was thinking of doing!

I am in awe of the work the others have done, and will spend the evening looking, reading, touching, feeling, and hope inspiration strike.

I can promise you one thing though. I am fast. I will be done with this in the promised 10 days, and will have it in the mail before I head to New Jersey next week. Too bad it isn’t going to Mrs. Figby, I could have delivered it in person!

Here is a sneek peek at my contribution. The left side is the page Leslie and I shared and the page on the right is my page. I may come back after the holidays and post more photos pf the artists that came before me. Until then, Wendy, look out the book is winging it’s way to you!
